Great Turkey Shoot # 10 was held in Camden, South Carolina
September 23rd, 24th, and 25th
In the Beginning...
The Great Turkey Shoot (also known simply as "GTS") started out as a get-together of good friends, who had made acquaintance with each other by way of a few BBS's that specialized in R/C models. One of these fellows had an idea to create a network called RC-Net, but lacked some of the needed computer skills to get it going. Another fellow had the skills, and so they put their heads together, and created RC-Net. Within a year's time, RC-Net had nodes in 15 states, plus nodes in Canada, Germany, and Spain. Eventually, it merged with another network named FlyNet, where it gained even more popularity. Unfortunately, the rise in use of the Internet caused a slow decrease in the usage of RC-Net.

However, a group of RC-Net members decided that they should strengthen their friendship by holding an annual get-together, rotating the location among each member's home flying field. At these get-togethers, friendship, good flying, good food, and tall tales were to become the order of business. Each year brings new surprises, new friends, and new locations, not to mention new models.

The first GTS was held at the new flying field of the Kershaw County Flyers of Camden SC. Southern & hospitality was second to none, and the locals out did themselves making all the visitors feel welcome. Their flying field, the vision of
GTS member Doyle Allen is a sight to behold. They actually call the field a"Science Park", because it offers so much more than just an R/C flying club with a place to fly.
It has been ten years and we Turkey Shooters have rotated our annual GTS between Canada & Boston & the AMA site at Muncie & Jacksonville Florida & now for GTS#10, we are once again visited Camden, South Carolina.
